Do Pro-Lifers Care About Children After Birth?

Pro-lifers have been known to advocate strongly for the protection of unborn children, but the real question remains: Do they extend this commitment to the welfare of children post-birth? It’s a valid inquiry that needs to be addressed. If the goal is to safeguard life, shouldn’t that concern also encompass ensuring that children grow up in safe and healthy environments?

While pro-life advocates often focus on preventing abortions by defunding organizations like Planned Parenthood and supporting anti-abortion laws, there is a lack of attention to the struggles faced by families raising children. The reality is that raising a child in today’s economy requires more than just bringing them into the world. It involves access to healthcare, affordable childcare, and parental support, areas where many pro-life policies fall short.

In the United States, maternal and infant mortality rates are alarmingly high compared to other developed nations. Despite this, many pro-life advocates oppose healthcare policies that could address these issues, particularly impacting marginalized communities like the Black population.

Supporting measures like universal healthcare, affordable childcare, paid family leave, and mental health services is crucial in ensuring the well-being of both children and their parents. Programs like paid maternity leave are essential for the health of mothers and the development of newborns, while affordable childcare can alleviate financial burdens for single mothers.

When nearly half of parents are spending a significant portion of their income on childcare, it’s evident that more support is needed for families to thrive. Saving a life shouldn’t end at childbirth; it should encompass the ongoing care and support for children and their families.
