Monique Joseph found herself in a difficult situation that not only affected her family but also took a toll on her mental and emotional well-being. Her husband was wrongfully accused and convicted of a crime he did not commit, leaving Joseph to juggle the responsibilities of two parents alone.

The pressure became overwhelming for Joseph, who struggled to find support during this challenging time. Even the church failed to provide her with comfort, instead, adding to her burden by questioning her choices.

Fortunately, Joseph found solace in Restoring Justice (RJ), an organization where she now serves as the Holistic Services Director. Through RJ, Joseph discovered a community that offered her support, encouragement, and a safe space to share her struggles.

Together with friends from the Texas Organizing Project (TOP), Joseph initiated “Healing Circles,” a community-based healing experience open to all. These Circles aim to provide a platform for individuals to come together, discuss shared challenges, and work towards collective change.

Community Healing Circles have a long history, dating back to ancient African traditions and are utilized by various local entities such as the Black Man Project and Harris County Precinct One’s Senior Enrichment Program. These initiatives focus on fostering community relationships to promote overall well-being.

As we navigate through life’s challenges, it is vital to have a support system and a place to share our burdens. By participating in rituals like the Community Healing Circle, we can find comfort, strength, and unity with others.
