Welcome to the Houston Astros Wild Card Series Roster!
The Houston Astros have officially released their roster for the American League Wild Card Series just in time for Game 1 on Tuesday. This lineup includes a mix of seasoned players and fresh faces ready to make their mark on the postseason.
Two notable inclusions are outfielders Yordan Alvarez and Chas McCormick, both of whom overcame injuries towards the end of the regular season. However, one absence that stands out is veteran pitcher Justin Verlander, who has been struggling since his return from a neck injury.
Verlander himself acknowledged that he may have rushed his comeback, stating, “I think I came back from the neck injury a little fast. Obviously, I know the schedule, I know the calendar and I want to be an asset for this team…but the results have not been good.”
Despite these challenges, Verlander remains determined to work through his rough patch, emphasizing the need to push through the adversity. This season has been one of the toughest in his long and successful career, with a 4-6 record and a 5.55 ERA in 16 starts.
The Wild Card Series roster features a mix of 11 pitchers and 15 position players. Of these, five players will be experiencing their first taste of the postseason excitement: RHP Spencer Arrighetti, RHP Ronel Blanco, IF Zach Dezenzo, and LHP Bryan King.
Additionally, the Astros are preparing for any scenario by carrying 18 players on their taxi squad throughout the postseason.
As the Astros gear up for their Wild Card Series, fans are eager to see how this unique blend of new talent and seasoned veterans will fare in the high-stakes playoff atmosphere. Stay tuned to see how this exciting roster performs on the field!
