Welcome to Bashi Ban, a martial arts center nestled in the heart of Pasadena, Texas. This center offers an after-school program for children of all ages, focusing on physical and mental development through martial arts training.
Joe Contreras, the owner, is passionate about working with kids and adults alike. He welcomes anyone from 4 to 100 years old to try out the program and experience the benefits of martial arts training.
However, recently, Bashi Ban has been facing a smelly and unpleasant challenge right outside its doors. Two overflowing manholes in front of the business have been causing a stinky and hazardous situation for both students and staff.
“It’s the main sewage. It overflows with everything you can imagine that goes underground. The smell is disgusting. It’s really hard to breathe when you go outside,” Contreras shared with KHOU 11 News.
Despite multiple calls to the City of Pasadena, the issue remained unresolved for nearly a year. However, after KHOU 11 brought attention to the situation, the city issued a statement outlining plans to address the problem.
The city plans to replace the old and narrow manholes with larger fiberglass entries, allowing crews to access and maintain the sewer lines more effectively. This improvement is expected to alleviate the constant overflow and odor issues faced by Bashi Ban.
While a specific timeline for the repairs was not provided, Contreras remains hopeful for a swift resolution to ensure the safety and comfort of everyone at the martial arts center. The coordination between the city and Harris County will play a crucial role in facilitating the repair process.
As the community eagerly awaits the completion of these repairs, Bashi Ban continues to prioritize the well-being and experience of its students. Stay tuned for updates on this developing story as we monitor progress on the sewer repair project.
