LOS ANGELES – Actors Channing Tatum and Jenna Dewan have finally reached a settlement to finalize their divorce and avoid a forthcoming trial, six years after Dewan first filed to end their marriage and after both had entered other long-term relationships.
The couple agreed to the terms in a court filing on Wednesday, effectively avoiding a trial that was scheduled to begin in December, over the distribution of assets and custody of their 13-year-old daughter, Everly. The settlement will ensure that many private details remain confidential.
Details of the agreement will remain confidential until it is approved by a judge. Both Tatum and Dewan have moved on to other relationships, with Tatum dating Zoë Kravitz and Dewan with actor Steve Kazee, with whom she has two children.
Both Tatum and Dewan began their careers as dancers in music videos and met as co-stars of the 2006 movie “Step Up.” They tied the knot in July 2009.
They announced their split in April 2018, stating that they had decided to “lovingly separate as a couple” while remaining best friends. Dewan filed for divorce six months later, and in November 2019, a judge declared them divorced.
Prior to reaching the settlement, Dewan had been advocating for two separate trials, one for custody and the other for finances, a move that Tatum opposed.
Tatum, known for his roles in films like “Magic Mike” and “21 Jump Street,” took a break from acting after the split to focus on parenting. On the other hand, Dewan continued her acting career and can now be seen in the ABC series “The Rookie.”
