Teen Duo Arrested for Stealing iPhone 16s in Houston
A teen duo from Chicago was arrested by Deer Park police for allegedly stealing iPhone 16s and now police are working to see if other cases could be connected.
Apple’s new iPhone 16 lineup went on sale last week and those new phones started shipping out across the country. Over the weekend, several deliveries across the Houston area were reportedly snatched off porches.
Now, law enforcement is trying to figure out if these cases could be connected.
In exclusive new surveillance video obtained by KHOU 11 News, you see a suspected thief exiting a rental car, running up to a Deer Park apartment and grabbing a brand new iPhone 16 that had just been delivered right off the porch.
The young woman in the video was identified as 18-year-old Iyanna Perry. She and her alleged accomplice, David Dye, 17, are in custody.
Deer Park Police said the duo flew in from Chicago last Friday and started stealing packages containing iPhone 16s from AT&T customers.
Lindsay Lorio, a resident in Cypress, had her brand-new iPhone 16 stolen as well. Surveillance video captured the moment it happened.
“We all work hard for our money to buy nice things and it just went down the drain,” said Lorio.
Deer Park Police suspect their two cases could indeed be connected to others. They know Perry and Dye spent time casing neighborhoods in Deer Park, La Porte, Katy, and communities in Fort Bend County.
The big question now is how the two suspects in custody obtained the information to find their targets.
“Stay in Chicago,” said Lorio. “Stay out of Houston. We have enough crime here. We don’t need anyone else coming down to take from us or steal from us.”
Lorio said AT&T told her once the phones are stolen, it’s impossible for thieves to activate them. So, she’s warning folks who may consider buying an iPhone 16 on Facebook or other platforms to think twice before spending money on something that won’t work.
If you’re having a high-priced item delivered to your home, if possible, request a signature before it can be dropped off or ensure it can be dropped off at a secure location.
If you have any information on these cases, call Deer Park Police or your local police department.
