Ted Cruz and Colin Allred in Virtual Tie in Texas Senate Race, New Poll Shows
Exciting news from the Texas Senate race! A recent poll conducted by the Texas Hispanic Policy Foundation (TxHPF) has revealed that Republican Sen. Ted Cruz and Democratic challenger Colin Allred are neck and neck in the race for U.S. Senate. Cruz is currently at 48% support, with Allred close behind at 45%. The margin of error for this survey is +/- 2.83%, making the race too close to call.
According to Jason Villalba, CEO of TxHPF, Allred has been consistently outperforming expectations in this race, showcasing strong favorability among voters. The survey also indicates that Texas voters have mixed opinions of Cruz, with 50% viewing him unfavorably and 47% favorably. On the other hand, 41% of likely voters have a favorable opinion of Allred, while 29% view him unfavorably.
Despite Allred’s strong performance, he still faces challenges with name recognition, as 30% of likely voters do not know enough about him to form an opinion. However, Allred leads Cruz by double digits among Black and Hispanic voters and women, while Cruz maintains a significant advantage among white voters and men.
Regina Montoya, a member of the TxHPF Board of Directors, highlighted the impact of Allred’s campaign dynamics on the race, noting that the gap between Allred and Cruz has significantly narrowed as the election approaches.
In addition to the Senate race, the poll also shed light on the U.S. presidential race, with Donald Trump leading Kamala Harris among likely Texas voters. Trump’s favorability rating in Texas remains higher than Harris’, reflecting a wider trend observed in the 2020 general election results in the state.
As the election draws near, it is evident that key issues such as the economy, democracy, immigration, and reproductive rights are at the forefront of voters’ minds. The Texas Hispanic Policy Foundation conducted the survey by reaching out to 1,200 likely Texas voters, capturing a diverse sample of the state’s population.
Excitement is building for the upcoming debate between Ted Cruz and Colin Allred on October 15 at WFAA’s studios in downtown Dallas. The debate will be broadcasted on WFAA and streamed on WFAA+, providing voters with an opportunity to hear directly from the candidates.
Stay tuned for more updates on this closely watched race as Election Day approaches!
