Girl Scout Honored for Saving Toddler’s Life
Isabelle Carrasco, a 10-year-old Girl Scout from Katy, Texas, was recently recognized for her bravery and quick thinking at a family birthday party. During her own 10th birthday celebration, Isabelle noticed her 2-year-old cousin had fallen into the pool and immediately sprang into action.
Receiving the Girl Scouts’ Lifesaving Award from the Girl Scout San Jacinto Council CEO, Mary Vitek, Isabelle’s heroism was commended. The incident occurred during a festive pool party in May, where Isabelle was playing with family and friends while celebrating her special day. Suddenly, she heard a splash and saw her cousin struggling in the water.
Without hesitation, Isabelle jumped into the pool to rescue her cousin, Giovanna. With the help of one of her troop leaders, Barbara Temple, Isabelle was able to safely pull the toddler out of the water. Temple praised Isabelle’s quick response, emphasizing how her actions prevented a potential tragedy.
Despite the accolades, Isabelle remained humble about her heroic deed. Her mother, Zehra Carrasco, shared how Isabelle downplayed the significance of her actions, seeing it as just another day. Isabelle credited the Girl Scout Law for teaching her to be helpful, courageous, and strong, instilling in her the values that led her to save her cousin without a second thought.
At the award ceremony where Isabelle was honored, her cousin Giovanna and other family members were present to witness her recognition. Isabelle’s selfless act of bravery serves as a reminder of the impact of Girl Scout values and the importance of being prepared to help others in times of need.
