Hispanic Heritage Month Celebration at Houston Farmers Market
On any given weekend, the Houston Farmers Market draws in a large crowd. On Sunday, they drew in an even larger one for a Hispanic Heritage Month celebration.
The celebration was full of live music, food, dancing, and local vendors.
One of the vendors, Elsy Palestina, owner of Tiendita Bonita, brings different items from Mexico and adds her personal touch to them. She shared, “You really don’t see a lot of girly, a lot of pink, you get me? And that’s what I like to incorporate. It’s how I share my culture with others.”
Liliana Vera, another vendor, shared a similar sentiment, “It makes me really happy when a lot of people come in here and the first thing is like, oh, I remember Mexico, I remember what we used to do, what we used to wear.”
Visitors from Philadelphia also joined the celebration, embracing their heritage and the significance of the month. Stephanie Ramirez expressed her joy, “We offer so much, we’re smart, our work ethic. We have so much passion for family, for work, for everything.”
It was a day filled with cultural appreciation and community bonding, showing the diversity and richness of Hispanic heritage.
