Deshaun Watson’s Accuser to Speak with NFL Investigators
Attorney Tony Buzbee, representing Deshaun Watson’s accuser, has stated that his client will soon be sharing her story with NFL investigators. Buzbee notes that in addition to his client’s testimony, there is also a video and two additional witnesses that investigators can speak with.
In an email to several media outlets, Buzbee revealed that his client is scheduled to speak with the league within the next two weeks. This development comes amidst ongoing legal troubles for Watson, who recently moved from the Houston Texans to the Cleveland Browns in a high-profile trade.
Earlier this week, Watson denied the allegations brought forward in a new sex-related lawsuit filed against him. His attorney, Rusty Hardin, issued a statement affirming Watson’s innocence and emphasizing his focus on football.
The accusations in the latest lawsuit against Watson involve sexual assault and battery stemming from an alleged incident in October 2020. This case is reminiscent of nearly two dozen similar lawsuits filed in 2021, mostly involving massage therapists.
In response to the new lawsuit, Buzbee expressed that he had attempted to resolve the matter privately with Hardin’s office for 10 months prior to escalating it to court. He described this case as the most serious and egregious brought against Watson to date.
Legal analysts have noted that unlike previous lawsuits, this particular case targets Watson exclusively, omitting any legal action against the Texans. This shift in focus is believed to be a result of previous settlements reached in similar cases.
Despite efforts to keep the case confidential, the allegations of sexual assault have become a matter of public record and are expected to impact Watson’s reputation and career, even as he continues to play for the Cleveland Browns.
The NFL has stated that it is reviewing the complaint and will investigate the matter under its personal conduct policy. Notably, a grand jury in Harris County previously declined to indict Watson on criminal charges related to similar accusations.
As the legal battle continues to unfold, the involvement of NFL investigators adds another layer of complexity to this high-profile case.
