Astros’ Jose Altuve Leaves Game Early with Injury
During Wednesday night’s game against the Oakland A’s, Astros second baseman Jose Altuve was unexpectedly pulled from the game after an at-bat in the fifth inning.
While at the plate with a 2-1 count in the fifth, Altuve took a swing and seemed to have experienced some discomfort, prompting the Houston training staff to check on him. Despite the lack of a specific injury being identified, Altuve ultimately struck out on the next pitch after fouling off a bunt attempt.
Altuve had a tough game prior to his early exit, going 0-for-2 with flyouts in the first and second innings. Mauricio Dubón took over at second base in the sixth inning following Altuve’s departure.
As of now, the extent of Altuve’s injury and whether he will miss any future games is unknown. Astros team reporter Julia Morales indicated that Altuve left the game due to “right side discomfort.”
We will keep an eye out for updates from the team regarding Altuve’s condition and his potential return to the lineup. In the meantime, the Astros will have to adjust their lineup in his absence.
