The Weird and Wacky World of Texas Beachcombing

As the director of community engagement for the Harte Research Institute of Gulf of Mexico Studies at Texas A&M Corpus Christi, Tunnell spends his days combing Texas beaches for the weird and wacky.

From creepy dolls to headless Barbies, Tunnell’s finds are anything but ordinary. In a recent Facebook post, the Harte Research Institute warned, “Your worst nightmares are washing up right now in the form of fireworms!” Tunnell spotted one of these gnarly creatures attached to a log on Mustang Island and shared his discovery in a weekly YouTube video.

But it’s not all about the creepy and crawly. Tunnell also comes across some weirdly wonderful and harmless treasures on his beachcombing expeditions. From unusual shells to unique sea glass, you never know what you might find on the shores of Texas.
