Tragic News: Body of Chenoa Nickerson Found Three Days After Flash Flood
Chenoa Nickerson, 33, was swept away by flood waters on Aug. 22 while she was with her husband. After an intense search operation, her body has been recovered.
The devastating incident occurred in the Havasu Canyon area of the Grand Canyon. Nickerson was caught in a flash flood, separating her from her husband. Despite efforts by rescue teams and rafters, she couldn’t be saved.
After three days of search and rescue missions, Nickerson’s body was found about 20 miles downriver from where she went missing. The Grand Canyon National Parks Service confirmed the recovery at river mile 176 on the Colorado River.
An investigation into Nickerson’s tragic death is currently underway by the National Parks Service and Coconino County Medical Examiner’s Office. No further details have been released.
Following the discovery of her body, Nickerson’s family issued a heartfelt statement expressing gratitude for the efforts of the rescue teams and requesting privacy to mourn their loss.
More than 100 individuals had to be airlifted out of Havasu Canyon by the Arizona National Guard after the flash floods. The affected areas remain closed indefinitely.
