Tragic Plane Crash in Odessa, Texas Claims Two Lives

It was a devastating scene in Odessa, Texas as witnesses watched in horror as a small plane struggled to gain altitude before crashing into an alley. The pilot, identified as Joseph Vincent Summa, 48, of Bellaire, and his passenger, Joleen Cavaretta Weatherly, 49, of Orange, tragically lost their lives in the crash.

According to reports from authorities, the plane took off from an Odessa airport but quickly encountered trouble, striking a power line before plummeting to the ground. Ector County Sheriff Mike Griffis noted that the pilot made a valiant effort to avoid nearby houses, but sadly, the crash still resulted in a large fire and multiple explosions.

Odessa Fire Rescue Chief Jason Cotton described the chaotic scene, mentioning that in addition to the two lives lost in the crash, a woman was injured and had to be rescued from a burning mobile home. The fire also damaged several buildings, vehicles, fences, and even a restaurant in the surrounding area.

The Federal Aviation Administration has confirmed that the plane involved was a Cessna Citation business jet, and both the FAA and the National Transportation Safety Board will be conducting thorough investigations into the crash.
