Houston man gets jail time for murdering college grad in 2021

Tragedy struck in 2021 when Emmanuel Browne, a 22-year-old recent college graduate and entrepreneur running his own cell phone repair business, was shot and killed while fixing Jarell Barrows’ phone.

The senseless act led to Barrows being convicted of capital murder and sentenced to life in prison without parole. Browne’s promising future was cut short as he had just embarked on his entrepreneurial journey after graduating from Lone Star College.

Browne’s passion for repairing phones began in his teenage years, and he utilized this skill to start a small business. Tragically, he was killed during a robbery while servicing Barrows’ phone, showcasing the dangers individuals face in pursuit of their dreams.

Surveillance footage revealed the harrowing moment when Barrows fatally shot Browne during a robbery attempt. Despite Browne’s attempts to protect himself, he lost his life in a cruel and unjust manner.

“This is a heartbreaking case because the victim was a young man who had so much potential and so much of his life still ahead of him,” expressed Harris County District Attorney Kim Ogg.
