Despite the short notice, hundreds of fans gathered for the impromptu show in Athens, which is located about 100 miles south of Nashville. The concert took place outside the Buc-ee’s store, known for its barbecue.
Urban shared with the crowd that the idea for the performance came to him during a previous visit to Buc-ee’s. He jokingly mentioned that his “cave man brain” thought setting up a small stage for a small audience would be fun. Little did he know, the crowd that showed up was much larger than he expected!
News outlets reported that people started gathering hours before the show, with some fans expressing their excitement at the unexpected concert opportunity. One fan, Cindy Wilson, shared her disbelief at hearing about the concert while at work and realizing it was only a short drive away from her home.
In addition to the concert, Urban also surprised fans by working behind the food counter at Buc-ee’s. In a video shared online, he can be seen wearing a Buc-ee’s T-shirt and apron as he prepares barbecue brisket for customers.
