The Divine Nine: Honorary Members from Texas Spotlighted

The Divine Nine refers to the nine historically Black Greek-letter organizations that make up the National Pan-Hellenic Council (NPHC), and each of these organizations has a process for selecting honorary members. These individuals may be recognized for their professional achievements, philanthropy, community service, or influence in areas such as education, politics, or entertainment. Honorary membership is considered a prestigious recognition, and those who receive it are often prominent public figures, including celebrities, activists, and leaders in various fields.

Alpha Kappa Alpha Sorority, Incorporated

At its 71st Boule ceremony held in Dallas last month, Alpha Kappa Alpha Sorority proudly inducted three new honorary members – all Texans. One of them is Tamron Hall, a Luling, TX native and celebrated broadcast journalist and author known for her Emmy-winning daytime talk show and roles as an NBC News correspondent and MSNBC anchor.

Sigma Gamma Rho Sorority, Incorporated

Sigma Gamma Rho Sorority welcomed 13 new honorary members during their 60th Boule in Houston last month. Among them are Latavia Roberson, original member of Destiny’s Child and successful entrepreneur, as well as Kim Roxie, founder of LAMIK cosmetics and breast cancer advocate.

Zeta Phi Beta Sorority, Incorporated

Zeta Phi Beta Sorority inducted 15 new members at their July Boule, including Leela James, an acclaimed singer and mental health advocate through her GIRLS TALK Initiative.

*Delta Sigma Theta Sorority, Incorporated will induct its honorary class during their 2025 national conference.

These Texans have been recognized for their significant contributions to their fields and communities and are now esteemed members of these prestigious sororities. Their induction highlights their achievements and dedication to making a positive impact in the world.
