The Astros’ Rookie Zach Dezenzo Gets the Silent Treatment After His First Home Run

When Astros rookie Zach Dezenzo hit his first big league home run in Saturday’s game against Boston, it was a moment to remember. Just five days into his Major League career, Dezenzo crushed a pitch from Red Sox’s Zack Kelly over the Green Monster and out of Fenway Park.

However, upon returning to the dugout, his teammates surprisingly gave him the “silent treatment” instead of the usual celebration. From star players like Yordan, Bregman, Altuve, to Jeremy, the initial response was subdued until they finally joined in the celebration with high-fives and cheers.

This playful tradition of the silent treatment for a player’s first home run is not unique to Dezenzo. Last year, Astros catcher Yainer Diaz experienced the same treatment after hitting his debut home run. Other teams also engage in this fun tradition, making it a memorable moment for rookies in the league.
