Sprinter Dominique Lasconi Mulamba Tests Positive for Anabolic Steroid at Paris Olympics
PARIS, France — Sprinter Dominique Lasconi Mulamba, who was set to represent Congo at the Paris Olympics, has been found to have tested positive for an anabolic steroid, according to the International Testing Agency.
The 22-year-old Mulamba, a competitor in the 100 meters event, was flagged for stanozolol metabolite in his sample, which is the same steroid infamously used by sprinter Ben Johnson during the 1988 Seoul Olympics.
As a result of the positive test, Mulamba has been provisionally suspended and will not be able to participate in the closing ceremony of the Games.
The sample in question was collected the day after Mulamba was eliminated in the rounds, finishing seventh in his heat with a time of 10.53.
This marks the fourth failed drug test at the Paris Games, highlighting the ongoing issue of doping in sports. Mulamba does have the option to appeal the decision to the Court of Arbitration for Sport.
It is a disappointing turn of events for Mulamba and serves as a reminder of the importance of fair competition and anti-doping measures in sports.
