The Extreme Fishing Adventures of Christian Haltermann
Christian Haltermann and his family have turned their love for fishing into an extreme hobby of catching and releasing big-game fish and sharks at the Padre Island National Seashore. Recently, Christian made headlines once again for catching a massive 14-foot-2-inch-long hammerhead shark.
Tug-of-War with a Tiger Shark
Christian shared one of his craziest moments on the water when a 10.5-ft. tiger shark unexpectedly bit down on his bait while he was out on a kayak. The adrenaline rush from this experience is what keeps him going in this extreme sport.
Respecting the Resource
Christian and his crew, including his wife Harley, are dedicated to responsible shark fishing. They maintain a 100 percent catch-and-release rate, ensuring the fish swim off strong and healthy. This commitment to respecting the resource is what allows them to continue their fishing adventures at Padre Island National Seashore.
Journey into Extreme Angling
Christian’s passion for sharks started at a young age, inspired by watching Shark Week in the ’80s. He credits his father for introducing him to the Padre Island National Seashore, where he now enjoys spending long nights camping and kayaking out into the water for the thrill of catching large sharks.
