A Former Klein ISD Teacher Blows the Whistle on Alleged Sex Trafficking

In a shocking turn of events, a former Klein ISD teacher, Desma Darden, has stepped forward as the whistleblower who exposed another educator’s involvement in a sex trafficking ring within the district. Darden, who had been teaching for over 12 years, reported fellow teacher Kedria Grigsby to district officials in February 2023, only to find herself without a job shortly after.

During a press conference on Thursday, Darden revealed that her daughter had been in a relationship with Grigsby’s son, which ultimately led to her becoming a victim. Despite Darden’s repeated attempts to raise concerns about Grigsby’s activities, it wasn’t until more than a year later, in April 2024, that Grigsby was arrested on felony charges of child sex trafficking and recruiting minors for prostitution. Grigsby’s son, Roger Magee, had previously been arrested on similar charges.

With the support of her attorneys, Darden spoke out about the lack of protection she received from the district after reporting Grigsby’s actions. Instead of taking action against the accused teacher, Klein ISD chose to terminate Darden’s employment.

“I did not take this action simply because I’m an educator, my first response was because I’m a mother,” Darden said during the press conference. “It’s been a sickening dark pit in my stomach to know that Klein has sat on this information and lied to you for over a year.”

Despite Klein ISD’s claims that they had contacted the Harris County Sheriff’s Office about Grigsby in 2023, the sheriff’s office confirmed that no such call had been made. Darden’s attorneys argued that the district should have conducted a more thorough investigation into the allegations made against Grigsby and are now filing a federal lawsuit on Darden’s behalf.

In response to the allegations, Klein ISD released a statement acknowledging the seriousness of the situation but did not deny Darden’s claims of wrongful termination. The district remains committed to cooperating with law enforcement and ensuring the safety and well-being of all students, teachers, and staff members.
