Welcome to the University of Houston Music Scholarship Program by Lizzo!

Attention all University of Houston (UH) music students, an incredible opportunity awaits you! The international music sensation, Lizzo, is thrilled to announce the return of her “Sasha Be Flooting” scholarship for the second year. This prestigious scholarship offers one fortunate student a full scholarship, covering their four-year tuition at the esteemed Moores School of Music.

Launched in 2023 as part of Lizzo’s Juneteenth Giveback campaign, the scholarship is dedicated to empowering Black musicians and alleviating the financial challenges of pursuing a music education.

“Music has been my sanctuary, my therapy, and my voice,” shared Lizzo, also known as Melissa Jefferson. As a proud UH alumna, Lizzo honed her musical skills by playing the flute in the Spirit of Houston marching band during her college years.

“I am honored to support talented Black musicians in realizing their aspirations at the University of Houston.”

The scholarship’s name, “Sasha Be Flooting,” pays tribute to Lizzo’s beloved flute, which has amassed a devoted Instagram following of over 326,000 fans.

This scholarship opportunity is a testament to Lizzo’s illustrious musical career. As a recipient of Grammy and Emmy awards, Lizzo has also been honored by NAACP, Billboard Music Awards, Soul Train Awards, and BET Awards.

“We are immensely grateful for Lizzo’s ongoing generosity and dedication to nurturing the next generation of music students at UH,” expressed Andrew Davis, Dean of UH’s McGovern College of the Arts.

“This scholarship has the power to transform lives, opening doors and creating pathways for deserving students to pursue successful music careers.”

While the application process for the “Sasha Be Flooting” scholarship has not yet been announced by university officials, aspiring UH music students are encouraged to stay tuned for further updates in the upcoming weeks.
